THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation's Transport wing is once again in limelight, thanks to the poor condition of the buses. A Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) bus hit a two-wheeler on Saturday morning around 11:45 am near Castle Mill Naka. Apparently the breaks of the bus failed and the diver couldn't get control of the bus and thus hit the two-wheeler.
It was shocking to know that the bus driver was aware of the badly maintained breaks and had even reported to the department. But the department had asked him to continue the trips using the same bus.
Shafi Sheikh, the victim, who was hit by the TMT bus informed Thane Plus that, "I was travelling with my friend Ajiz Sherkhan and just when we reached Castle Mill Naka, a bus hit us."
Sheikh further informed that, "When people who had gathered near the accident asked the driver about his careless driving, he said that, the breaks of the bus were not functioning properly. He also said that he was aware of the improper functioning of the breaks and had also informed the concerned authorities, but nothing was done."
Currently, the TMT has 150 functional buses and most of them are very old. The management agrees that most of the buses need urgent repairs and maintenance, but lack of funds has held up the repair work. This careless behaviour of the TMT department can prove fatal one day.
The two people injured in the accident were fortunate to be saved after meeting an accident with a bus. But it's high time the concerned authorities pull up their socks and get their buses repaired.
Shafi Sheikh and his friend Ajiz Sherkhan suffered minor injuries and were taken to Vitthal Sayanna Civil Hospital for treatment. The affected persons have registered an accident case at the Rabodi Police Station against the TMT driver and management for their careless job.
